february air

It seems this blog may end up being a monthly occurence only. Although maybe once Baby comes and he's napping and I'm bored out of my mind I may frequent it more often. For now I'm keeping quite busy! This is my first entry from the new living space. The two bedroom situation is working out quite nicely. We have so much more space and I have the nursery to set up. It's coming along nicely. The crib is all done, change table, shelves. I've even managed to wash and put away a lot of the clothes we've received so far. The shower isn't until April 3rd though so I won't have everything sorted until then. It was sad saying goodbye to our apartment. The first space we lived in together. It's nice having more space but we miss the location and the newness of the old place. A basement suite can't really compare to a condo.

Since the last entry I hit the BIG milestone. Third trimester. It's scary and exciting all at once. It's the home stretch and this baby is going to come, one way or another. I'm not sure how I really feel yet. Sometimes I want him to stay inside as long as possible so I can keep living life the same, keep working to get more money and keep sleeping as much as I want. Then other times I just really want to get past the whole giving birth thing which is looming ahead and is so incredibly daunting. Then still other times I want him to come out so I can see him and meet him face to face. I think he's going to be amazing and I'm so excited to introduce him to the world.

Becca delivered her baby on February 2nd! She's super cute and so tiny and new. They named her Juno Isabelle and she's very sweet. She hasn't cried much and she's picking up breast feeding well. Becca is still adjusting to her new lifestyle but seems to be doing well and I'm so glad she did it first so that I can learn through all her experiences. She wants me to hurry up and deliver so that we can be in the same stage again. It's not as fun being pregnant without her now. I guess if we have second children we'll have to plan it so that we're in it together again!

Celebrated my 28th birthday 3 days ago. Just dinner with family and friends at the Old Spaghetti Factory since I'm not really up to going out and partying all night currently. It was a really nice dinner though! Brandon's parents and my Mom finally met. They seemed to enjoy each other. Becca & Matt came and they brought Juno. She slept the whole time which was good because Becca was able to enjoy her dinner and they had a successful first outing with new baby. I got some lovely cards and thoughtful gifts and just really enjoyed seeing everyone and knowing that they were all there to support me on my bday. I definitely felt the love.

Other than moving houses and being pregnant my life is pretty normal right now. I've been working more so I can hit the 600 hours for maternity leave and it hasn't been too bad. It's kind of nice being out of the house more and catching up with co-workers more now that I'm not feeling ill all the time. They're also super supportive at work and always helping me bend down less and sit down when I'm looking pale. The only down side is that I have to take about 100 pee breaks every shift, luckily they're very understanding about that too. Working 8 hour shifts is nice because of the money but also kind of awful because of the back pain afterwards. Although laying down for about an hour seems to help. So I'll keep trudging through as long as I can!

Prenatal classes start tomorrow night! And we've started going to see the doctor every 2 weeks now. It's becoming quite the exciting time!

happy new year

First post of 2016! Haven't posted since Christmas because things have been crazy. We decided we should move into a 2 bedroom place rather suddenly and gave notice to our current landlord at the end of December. Then began the panicked search for somewhere to live come February 1st. Luckily, after many duds, we found a lovely 2 bedroom suite for the same price we're paying now for our studio apartment. The location isn't as convenient but we'll make it work. Hopefully for a while because moving is the worst. I hate packing and organizing and getting everything sorted. It's all very stressful. Then add on top of that being 26 weeks pregnant. Not the best of times.

We're making it work though! Just hit the 26 week milestone today! Baby boy is kicking like crazy and getting much stronger. Brandon even felt him kick a couple days ago which was very sweet. He was definitely excited and it warmed my heart to see. Also went to the doctor and she said I could start taking Zantac for the horrendous heartburn I've been having and it has greatly improved my life. Now I can actually eat and not die.

Got a lot of baby stuff in that I'd ordered online. All the Dumbo stuff arrived from the Disney store and the outfits are so cute I tear up every time I see them. I can't wait to dress this little guy in these snuggly adorable outfits. We also got a great deal on the bedding set during Sears baby days so the crib will be looking adorable as well. We will be borrowing a sort of beside the bed crib for the first few months but we'll probably end up using the crib for nap times. It's crazy how close it's getting! Only 14 weeks til due date and possibly less than that before baby actually arrives!

It's scary to think that I'm almost in the third trimester. Been having a lovely time with the second and as much as I hate being pregnant I'm super nervous about getting to the end result. So in some ways I just want it to be over but in other ways I wish I could stay in the second trimester a bit longer. Conflicting pregnancy emotions.

I've also started a new prenatal yoga class in Cloverdale and it is amazing! The teachers name is Tobey and she just recently got back from mat leave herself. She is so relatable and just explains everything so well and makes it feel like it's actually benefiting. I'll definitely sign up for the next session too. I should be able to squeeze in another 6 weeks before the end! We also have the prenatal classes started next month which should be fun as well as my birthday coming! So February will be quite the busy month.

I'll post when this hectic preggo life allows!

happy holidays

Christmas Day has come and gone and so has the 22 week milestone. Coming up on 23 now. Sometimes it seems time is moving slower and this baby is going to take forever to arrive and then sometimes it speeds up and I feel like there's no time at all! I'm not panicking yet though. Still in the second trimester. Feelings may be different once the third hits!

The holidays have been lovely! I finished up the Christmas shopping with time to spare and found a great gift for everyone and put together a pretty awesome stocking for Brandon. We got a Crock Pot which I'm super excited to use! We also got a ton of gift cards and a few baby presents. Brandon got me an amazing Nikon camera which I'm loving! It's definitely going to be better to have a real quality camera for this new life chapter, the iphone one just doesn't always cut it. He, of course, loved the hockey tickets! Hopefully I'll still be good enough in April to go to the game...

I've had to keep it under wraps due to us not telling Brandon's mom until Christmas but we found out some exciting news from the ultrasound...it's a BOY! Once the initial surprise wore off I began to actually get very excited picturing a little son walking around. My family so far is pretty much all girls so a boy will be a fun new experience for everyone. My mom has no grandsons and my sisters have no nephews so it will be exciting! Brandon is obviously happy as well, he's definitely got sports dreams in the future for this little one. Lately he's been so active in there I'm thinking he's definitely a soccer star in the making, those kicks are getting quite frequent! Of course, there's always ballet instead.

I've been all over the malls and internet finding adorable baby boy things. Now that I've found out I pretty much want everything. We've decided on a Dumbo theme for the nursery and I've ordered him some adorable Dumbo outfits to accompany the stuffy I got him a while back. We also registered for a crib bedding set from Sears that has an adorable Dumbo pattern. I can't wait until everything comes together. It's going to be too cute. Also found a sweet deal on a crib mattress on boxing day and Best Buy had a sale on aden + anais things so I got him some muslins as well. Things are definitely slowly coming together.

I hope everyone's Christmas was as full of love as mine was!

halfway

This week I reached 20 weeks of being pregnant. That's halfway. It feels like I've been pregnant for a very long time though so if the second half lasts as long as the first half there's still plenty of time until this little one arrives. However, with Christmas and New Years and countless birthdays approaching this second half could go significantly faster. I guess we'll see.

Excitingly the 20 week mark means you get a significantly longer and more detailed ultrasound. We went on Friday and it was very interesting. The technician spend a good 20 minutes measuring and who knows what else and then she let us see. Baby was curled up and very person-shaped. The technician pointed out the happy news that Baby has two eyes, two arms, two legs, two hands, two feet and a beating heart. We also saw the very solid spine. It is still a mystery as to whether we have a he or a she on our hands and it was moving around so much in there we couldn't get a good look between the legs. The technician may have seen something in the 20 minutes she was looking around but she's not allowed to tell us anything so we have to wait until we see the doctor to find out if she noted a gender on our file. Next prenatal appointment is January 6 so for now we'll just be happy that all the parts are there and all the organs are working properly.

Also this week I managed to whittle my christmas shopping list down quite a bit. I only have 7 things left to purchase and they are all chosen already so it's simply a matter of getting to the stores to pick them up. So some definite progress from the last time and good considering christmas is only 12 days away.

On Wednesday we attended the aquarium members christmas party which helped boost the christmas spirit. It was nice to get dressed up and get out of the house for a bit. Usually in the evenings we're in the house for the night by 6. There was an adorable Polar Express 4D movie, free christmas cookies and an extra discount in the gift shop. I used the discount to pick up some nice aquarium ornaments for our tree (with seals & sharks of course) and purchased a dolphin stuffy that they were selling to donate to children who are in need. We also went outside to visit my favorite exhibit, the harbor seals & stellar sea lions, and they were sleeping on the beach! We've never been to the aquarium when the sun has been down so I've never seen them sleeping before. It was adorable. It was all I could do to stop myself from jumping the fence and going to rub their little bellies. I seriously couldn't get over how sweet they were. Definitely one of my favorite parts of the party! The wet lab was open again for members to touch some of the safer animals. I held a strange sea urchin and we poked at some anemones & sponges. Brandon held a hermit crab which was creepy but it's still so interesting to see them so up close and personal.

Needless to say after the week I've had I'm feeling much more exhausted than usual. After the aquarium, the mall trips and my little sisters choir concert I'm ready for next week to be a little slower. We'll see if that happens.

tis the season

It's December 8th. I've somehow been ignoring the fact that Christmas is creeping up. It's actually pretty easy to do when you mostly hide in your apartment pretending it's still November. The main distraction of growing a person has also helped a ton. However, it's only 16 days away and I have yet to even make it halfway through my shopping list. In fact, I haven't even made a list. I do have presents for a few people. I'm not one of those crazies who does all of their shopping on the 24th. I definitely am behind though. I just can't seem to focus on the spending aspect of the season. I'm a bit wrapped up in the magic of snowflakes and christmas lights. Let's blame the pregnancy brain. I just keep thinking about babies and love and family and it's all very lovely and beautiful and distracting.

Anyways, I really wanted to post the Taylor Swift song that is on repeat on my playlist right now

Taylor Swift - Never Grow Up
Your little hand's wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light
To you everything's funny, you got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have, honey
If you could stay like that

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
I won't let nobody hurt you, won't let no one break your heart
And no one will desert you
Just try to never grow up, never grow up

You're in the car on the way to the movies
And you're mortified your mom's dropping you off
At 14 there's just so much you can't do
And you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots
But don't make her drop you off around the block
Remember that she's getting older too
And don't lose the way that you dance around in your pj's getting ready for school

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
No one's ever burned you, nothing's ever left you scarred
And even though you want to, just try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room
Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps, remember the words said
And all your little brother's favorite songs
I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone

So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder than I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my night light on

Wish I'd never grown up
I wish I'd never grown up

Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
I could still be little
Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
It could still be simple
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
Won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
And even though you want to, please try to never grow up
Oh, don't you ever grow up
Oh, never grow up, just never grow up

Browsing the internet for affordable gifts while listening to Taylor Swift has become my daily exercise. It's ok though. I'm making a dent in the non-existent list. I'll get it done.

Wish me luck...

new worries

I ate an expired yogurt. I hate yogurt. Once I thought I might try and do the Activia challenge thing so I bought a whole case of it. It sat in the refrigerator and I never ate one cup. It expired and I threw it out. I just couldn't bring myself to eat that nasty dairy product. It smells bad. It's a weird texture. It's not for me. Today I ate an expired yogurt.

Pregnancy seems to make you do things you've never done before. Every day you are bombarded with information on what you shouldn't do. Don't exercise too strenuously but don't take it too easy. Don't eat too much but don't eat too little. Don't eat some seafood but don't skip other seafood. It's all very confusing and if you go back a couple years you can find an article or a guide that will tell you the exact opposite of whatever they're telling you now.

It seems that maybe no one ever knows exactly what to do. The medical professionals have an idea but their information is constantly evolving as new research is coming out every day. Turns out that all this ever changing advice is just unbearably stressful. I'm choosing to take a more hands off approach. Whenever possible I avoid Google. I've blocked WebMD. I sparingly read the information provided by my pregnancy app. This filtering of conflicting information is not foolproof. I read the diet information. I discovered that yogurt with berries would be a wise snack choice. I fought my gag reflex for the betterment of my unborn child. I ate an expired yogurt.

It was only 6 days expired and smelled normal. It was more than likely entirely fine and simply a victim of the early "sell by" date that causes perfectly good food to end up in the trash every day. The problem I'm having with it is not the fact that I ate an expired yogurt but the fact that I ate yogurt at all. It's kind of impossible to wrap my head around. Baby, you aren't even born yet and I'm already doing things I would never have done. Eating the revolting snack that is yogurt. Enjoying it.

That's the surprising part. The yogurt actually wasn't bad. I didn't hate it. I didn't gag. I ate it all up. So yes, I'm changing and doing things I've never done before. They seem to be for the better. For a healthy start to a new future full of happiness and better choices. A future full of growth and love. I'll continue to filter all the information. I'll take some advice to heart and completely ignore the rest. I'll make it through this pregnancy and end up with a child that comes with an entire library more and I'll probably ignore the majority of that too. My one goal is to simply do what feels correct and trust myself. I don't want to waste time worrying about what all the research says. I want to live life and enjoy every moment as time slips away so quickly. Human instinct has gotten us this far right?

Oh, and maybe eat some more yogurt.

seventeen weeks

Today I'm officially 17 weeks pregnant. Not quite halfway but getting there. It's impossible to deny that there's a bump and inside that bump there's currently a turnip-sized little person. It's crazy to think of and impossible to comprehend. How does one start from nothing and grow into a full-sized human?

I'm trying not to think too hard on the whole thing. I don't want to risk terrifying myself. It's a sort of que sera sera attitude I'm currently adopting. It's working so far. It's also easy to forget sometimes. I don't actually feel pregnant most of the time. I feel nauseous, gassy, bloated and exhausted, but you don't have to be pregnant to feel those things. I know in my mind there's a little person in there and at the prenatal appointments they confirm it with pictures and sounds of a tiny heart beating. When I'm home though, just hanging out and relaxing, it's easy to feel like things are just normal and a tiny life isn't blossoming inside me.

The heartburn is the worst though. It doesn't matter what I eat, when I eat or how much/little of it there is. It's inevitable. The heartburn is coming. The curse of the second trimester. That's when it's impossible to ignore that I'm pregnant. This unprecedented heartburn that happens every day is the one symptom that I know is being caused by these horrible hormones and thus makes it very clear that I'm 100% pregnant.

Eventually the little turnip will become larger and its little movements will become pretty difficult to ignore, but until then I'm enjoying the quiet little moments where I feel like my normal self (though a somewhat squishier version) and can pretend that the inevitable life change isn't just 23 weeks away...
